💬 Bridging Perspectives
Praveen Kumar Gampa, a 27-year-old Indian student, was pursuing his Master's degree in Data Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He had arrived in the United States in August 2023, full of hope and ambition after completing his BTech in Hyderabad. His father, Raghavulu, shared that Praveen was just months away from graduating and starting a promising career.
Untimely Demise
Tragically, Praveen's life was cut short when he was shot dead in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, during a suspected robbery at the local store where he worked part-time. The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed their condolences and offered support to Praveen's family and the University.
A Father's Grief
Raghavulu recounted the harrowing experience of learning about his son's death. He had missed a WhatsApp call from a US number in the early hours of the morning and became worried when Praveen didn't answer his calls. Eventually, someone else answered and asked for Praveen's date of birth. It was later that they received the devastating news from Praveen's friends and the police.
Investigation Underway
The circumstances surrounding Praveen's death remain unclear, with conflicting information initially provided by the police regarding the type of weapon used and the location of the incident. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death, and the family awaits further details from US authorities.
